My research at Monell focuses on investigating human body odors. A major goal of this research is to establish the identity and concentrations of volatile organic odorants present in human skin in a normative population. Ultimately, it is hoped that a better understanding of the normal volatiles found on the skin will aid in the early detection of various diseases, primarily skin cancers, based upon their characteristic volatile emission patterns.
