Research Interests:

My current research interests in mammalian olfaction are at two levels of analysis. At a behavioral level, I am trying to develop objective, robust measures of psychological phenomena like learning and attention during development of odor-guided behavior in individual animals. Towards this end, we are doing experiments on odor tracking in neonatal rodents.

At a neurophysiological level, the goal is to understand how functional olfactory bulb circuits develop in neonatal rodents. Current experiments are aimed at measuring modulation of neurotransmitter release from mitral and granule cells and the developmental changes that occur in this modulation.

The long-term aim is to identify the underlying causal connections between these two levels of olfactory system function.
