My research goal is to determine the specificity of a taste receptor. To achieve this goal, the receptor will be expressed either in a cell-based or a cell free system. The expressed protein will then be purified and inserted into a lipid bilayer-type artificial membrane where its activity can be measured. This will eventually allow the development of modulatory compounds for the receptor.
