My research focuses on the function of olfactory and taste receptor cells from different species. Current projects include early development of neuronal function in the olfactory system of mice, structure and function of the olfactory system in felines and the signal transduction mechanisms in taste cells from mice and humans. Electrophysiological methods (predominantly whole-cell- and perforated- patch recording) and fluorescence imaging with ion-sensitive dyes are used to analyze ion fluxes across the cell membranes.
