Genes of the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC), best known for their importance in transplantation and the immunologic handling of chemical information, also participate in a variety of other biological features, including the production of distinctive individual odors ("odortypes"). My research involves several aspects of this phenomenon, including understanding the way in which odortypes are formed and their functions. In addition to this work, my laboratory is also involved in research on model studies of how odors may signal preclinical disease and how body odor changes with age.
