Morley R. Kare Fellowship In 1968, at a time when very little was understood about the senses of taste and smell, Dr. Morley R. Kare pioneered the creation of the world’s first institute for the study of the chemical senses. Forty years later, almost sixty PhD’s at Monell lead the world in advancing scientific knowledge to unlock the mysteries of taste, smell and chemical irritation. In addition to maintaining excellence in this field of research, scientific education was part of Dr. Kare's vision. Established in his memory in 1990, the Morley R. Kare Fellowship Fund was created to ensure a future source of well-trained research scientists in the chemical senses. In honor of his dedication to young scientists, this fund provides support for young faculty who show great potential in the chemical senses and need start-up funding to help initiate their research careers.
