Research Summary

My research at Monell investigates the airflow, odorant and particle transport in the human and animal nasal cavities to gain a better understanding of nasal flow mechanism and aerosol deposition. I am also interested in the following areas: 1) experimental (Particle Image Velocimetry) and numerical (DNS, LES and RANS methods) study of the indoor airflows and particulate matter transport; 2) the application of earth tempering of ventilation air in a swine building; 3) transport (gradient or counter-gradient ) phenomena in turbulent stratified flows; and 4) wavelet and fractal analysis of turbulent flows; 5) the fluid flow and heat transfer in the continuous casting of steel slabs; and 6) the structure of turbulent shear flows and control of turbulent noise.
