2011 Spring Colloquium Slidecast Now Available for Sponsors
Each spring, the Monell Center invites corporate sponsors to participate in a colloquium related to chemosensory research. This year’s colloquium, held March 29 & 30 and titled, “Biological and Instrumental Approaches to Chemosensory Screening,” focused on how biologically-based approaches are used to screen chemosensory stimuli and how biological principles are being applied to the next generation of smart instruments for chemical sensing.
The 2011 Spring Colloquium slidecast is now available exclusively for corporate sponsors.
Monell Center Receives $2 Million Core Grant from NIH
Monell has been awarded a $2 million Core grant from NIH’s National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD). The funds will be used to increase and strengthen technological and research services at the Center over the next five years.
Raewyn Turner Joins Monell Center as Artist-In-Residence
Raewyn Turner, an internationally known installation artist based in Auckland New Zealand, will be artist-in-residence at the Monell Center from October 10 through November 3, 2011. Turner’s work explores the intersection of olfaction and experience through various media, including video, light, smell, and paint.
Lew & Betty Somers
Monell mourns the loss of Lewis & Elizabeth Somers, two of the Monell Center’s most ardent and long-term supporters, enthusiasts, and friends. They will be greatly missed.
Lew had been a member of Monell’s International Advisory Committee since its inception in the 1970s. Although neither he nor Betty were scientists, both took a lively interest in Monell’s research and how it applied to health and well-being. Lew also was always thinking of how best to communicate the Center’s mission to others. In 2008, he was presented with the first “Friend of Monell” award in recognition of his 40 years of service and support. Betty was present for the ceremony, along with their three children and their spouses.
Everyone at Monell extends our deepest sympathy to the extended Somers family
