Ichiro Matsumoto Receives Ajinomoto Award for Young Investigators in Gustation from AchemS
Molecular biologist Ichiro Matsumoto, Ph.D. is the recipient of the 2012 Ajinomoto Award for Young Investigators in Gustation, awarded annually by the Association for Chemoreception Sciences (AChemS) to an outstanding junior scientist who is an emerging leader in the field of gustation.
2011 Spring Colloquium Slidecast Now Available for Sponsors
Each spring, the Monell Center invites corporate sponsors to participate in a colloquium related to chemosensory research. This year’s colloquium, held March 29 & 30 and titled, “Biological and Instrumental Approaches to Chemosensory Screening,” focused on how biologically-based approaches are used to screen chemosensory stimuli and how biological principles are being applied to the next generation of smart instruments for chemical sensing.

Monell Center Receives $2 Million Core Grant from NIH
Monell has been awarded a $2 million Core grant from NIH’s National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD). The funds will be used to increase and strengthen technological and research services at the Center over the next five years.
Raewyn Turner Joins Monell Center as Artist-In-Residence
Raewyn Turner, an internationally known installation artist based in Auckland New Zealand, will be artist-in-residence at the Monell Center from October 10 through November 3, 2011. Turner’s work explores the intersection of olfaction and experience through various media, including video, light, smell, and paint.
