The Summer Research Apprecticeship Program for the 2005 year has come to a close. We would like to thank everyone who made this year's program a fun and exciting summer.
The following highlights the students and activities of the 2005 Summer Rearch Apprenticeship Program. Each student worked in a laboratory of a Monell scientist. Students spent their time at Monell meeting the challenges of serious research responsibilities in projects such as the chemical analyses of human body odor; the study of chemosensory effects of occupational exposure at Ground Zero; the investigation of flavor preferences in the young infants and children; and developing non-lethal repellents for agricultural pests. They also attended a weekly lecture series to learn about recent scientific findings in the field of taste and smell research.
At the end of the summer, students worked with their mentors and developed high quality and technical posters detailing the hypotheses tested as well as the methods and results obtained from their summer research projects. The students then presented these research findings to the scientists at the Monell Center as well as to invited family and friends.
