The Summer Research Apprecticeship Program for the 2007 year has come to a close. We would like to thank everyone who made this year's program a fun and exciting summer.
Monell’s 2007 Research Apprenticeship Program provided hands-on research training for 33 aspiring young scientists. Each student worked in a laboratory of a Monell scientist and received a stipend while meeting the challenges of serious research responsibilities in projects. These projects examined many different aspects of taste and smell, including the learning of mechanisms in food cravings, modeling of nasal airway, primary taste cell culture, as well as immune cell profiles of human olfactory and taste tissue. Students also attended a weekly lecture series presented by various Monell faculty members to learn about recent scientific findings in the field of taste and smell research. At the end of the summer, they presented their research findings in poster presentations to scientists, staff and family members.
