About Monell

The Monell Chemical Senses Center was established as the world's first multidisciplinary research institution devoted exclusively to the chemical senses in 1968. The Monell Chemical Senses Center is an independent, non-profit scientific institute that is devoted exclusively to research on the mechanisms and functions of taste, smell and chemical irritation. The approach to basic and clinical research is multidisciplinary, involving cooperative efforts among nearly 50 doctorate-level scientists whose specialties include nutrition, psychology, molecular biology, chemistry and biochemistry. The majority of our funding is from federal grants. For more information please visit the Monell web site at www.monell.org.

The Center occupies its own five-story building with laboratories, a library, conference and lecture rooms, a human testing facility.

The Monell Chemical Senses Center is located at 35th and Markets Streets. With this location on the perimeter of the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University campuses, and within the University City Science Center area, Monell benefits from a rich scientific and intellectual environment.
