The Monell Center hosted a Book Club for the 2001 high school, undergraduate and teacher apprentices. Thanks to the generosity of The Annenberg Foundation, every student received a copy of The Lives of a Cell by Lewis Thomas. The vast majority of apprentices reported that they not only enjoyed reading the book but through Thomas's writings, they were in awe of "how huge the world is and how little we know about it."
